Aphids: Aphis craccivora Symptoms of damage

Management

  • Distortion of shoots and stunting of plants.
  • Honeydew secreted by nymphs and adults deposited on leaves cause sooty mould.
  • Vector for peanut stripe virus and groundnut rosette virus.

Identification of the pest

  • Nymph and Adult: Reddish to dark brown coloured with cornicles in abdomen.
  • Conserve natural enemies like coccinellids, praying mantids, chrysopids and spiders by intercropping with cowpea.
  • Release of Chrysoperla zastrowi sillemi grubs @ 1000 Nos. / ac.
  • Spray NSKE 5 % or Azadirachtin 1 % EC @ 400 ml/ac
  • Spray imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 40 - 50 ml/ac
