Glossary — H

Herbicide (i) A chemical used for killing or reduces the negative effects of weeds. Hill placement Method of applying fertilizer either in bands or near the plants. This method is usually employed when relatively small quantities are to be applied in pinches at the base of each plant of cotton, maize, cauliflower, cabbage, brinjal, tomato and other vegetable crops by this method. Heifer A young female bovine. Homogenization The process of physically reducing the particle size of fat in milk, thus enabling even distribution of fat throughout the milk. Hortipasture Fruit trees are raised on the contours while the area between the trees is converted into a pasture for animals. Hydroponic Growing plants in aqueous solution of essential nutrients.
