Cultural

• Hoe the soil under the vines in Sept – Oct and Dec – Jan to destroy the pupae of pollu beetle in soil
• Use of resistant varieties line Uthirankotta 1 and II, TMB V and Shimoga against pollu beetle

Chemical

• Spray of dimethoate or quinalphos 0.1% in late June and early Oct.
• Top shoot borer can be controlled by the spray of dimethoate or phosphomidon 0.05%.
• Spray with malathion 0.1% or dimethoate 0.05% to keep gall forming thrips population under check

Biological

• Field release of parasites like Apanteles sp, Eduderus and Goniozus are effective in reducing the top shoot borer incidence
