Management

  1. Grub burrows into the stem near the soil surface.
  2. Wilting of plants in patches.
  3. Dead plants, come easily when pulled up

Identification of the pest

Eggs: Laid on the stem. Grub: Globular head and elongated, dorso-ventrally flattened body without legs. Pupa: pupates in stem.

  • Deep summer ploughing to exose the pupae to sun light and predation by birds.
  • Use well decomposed organic manure.
  • Destroy infested plant stems
