Phomopsis fruit rot: Phomopsis caricae-papayae

Symptoms :

  • Affected fruit develops a water-soaked spot which increases in size.
  • The whole area becomes soft and pulpy.
  • The rotten area turns dark brown to black and get depressed and cracks at a later stage.
  • Water-soaking is seen in the area surrounding the diseased portion.
  • All the stages of fruit are infected by the pathogen.

Management :

  • Borax, benlate, captan, difolatan and dithane M-45 are effective.
