Symptom of damage:
- Nymphs and adults are seen on earhead and sucks juice from grains at milky stage.
- Grains shrink and turn black becomes ill filled or chaffy
Identification of the pest:
- Blue cigar shaped eggs, laid under glumes or middle of the florets.
- Slender green coloured nymphs
- Adults: male greenish; Female green with brown margin
Management:
- Apply malathion 5D 25 kg/ha or phosalone 4D 25 kg/ha or neem seed kernel extract 5% or Azadirachtin 1% @ 1 lit/ha on 3rd and 18th day after panicle emergence
